Sports in Gavirate

Gavirate is famous for its walking and cycling path. The track is 27 km long and stretches along Varese lake. In case you wanted to rent bikes you could easily find them at Due Ruote Gavirate (www.dueruotegavirate.it). You will find the shop close to the parking lot, near the track and the lake itself. The path is perfect for both families and fitness and sport enthusiasts!

Close to Gavirate you can also find:

Must-see in Gavirate

In Gavirate you will be able to visit the Chiostro of Voltorre from the XI century and the Tobacco Pipe Museum.

In Comerio that is just 3 Km from Gavirate you will find the Remeron Caves that are perfect for children since there is no danger for them.

From June to September the Stradivari barge will navigate you along and throughout Varese Lake with a nice stop in Virginia Island. This place is known for having been listed the Unesco heritage of the Prehistoric Pile dwellings around the Alps. There you could also enjoy the food and wine served at the Tana dell’Isolino restaurant. Don’t forget to visit the archeological museum!

Shopping in Gavirate

Close to the B&B you can find Gavirate’s historical center, where you take a break in one of its fantastic bakeries, while tasting the famous “Brutti e Buoni” (typical cookies) or do some shopping in the trendy shopping center “Campo dei Fiori”.

Every Friday the center of Gavirate is closed and it hosts the weekly outdoor market.

Varese

The city of Varese is also called the garden city due to its countless parks and green areas. Varese is just 15 km far from  Gavirate. It can be reached by car, by bus or even by train.

In Varese or nearby you will be able to visit the Giardini Estense with the archeological museum of Villa Mirabello , Villa Milus, the Villa Ponte park, Villa Panza (property of FAI) and of course the Sacro Monte (which belongs to the Unesco heritage).

If you wanted to taste a gourmet snack or go shopping,  the center of Varese is the best place to go. It offers delightful bakeries and the best of fashion stores.

We highly suggest you to try and taste a local gourmet selection of Varese flavours : Buosino is a hot drink, made of coffee, chocolate, cream and milk; at the Buosini bakery; or even a slice of  Dolce Varese, a great cake that you will find at the Pasticceria Zamberletti. Or maybe enjoy a typical Italian happy hour with a nice glass of Aperitivo Apollo  at the Pirola Bar.

Laveno and Lake Maggiore

Within 15 minutes from Antonietta’s B&B you can also reach Laveno, which is the closest location of the Lago Maggiore area.
If you like driving and exploring from Lago Maggiore on, you can visit the countless beauties of Lombardia, Piemonte and also Swiss shores of the lake itself.

While visiting the shores in  Lombardia you will find Santa Caterina del Sasso hermitage or the Rocca di Angera which has a museum just fir all time dolls. As far as the Piemonte shore you may visit the San Carlone, Stresa, Arona and the Borromeo islands and eventually the Swiss part of Lago Maggiore with the blooming Locarno with all of its flowers and Film Festival as well.
